Mercedes-Benz Unveils New Weapon to Challenge Tesla

The German car company Mercedes-Benz is developing real weapons to challenge Tesla's leadership in high-performance electric cars.

Clearly, the Mercedes-Benz is an unstoppable force in the race for electric cars. (DDAIF).

The German car club seems to have decided to make people talk about it. This is an opportunity for Elon Musk, chief executive of EV-market leader Tesla, (TSLA) - Get the Tesla Inc Report is currently investing heavily in its $ 42 billion bid to buy Twitter, (TWTR ) - Find Twitter, Inc. Report a suggestion that the site board opposes. Mercedes-Benz therefore has a marketing opening, closing the gap left by Musk.

Mercedes-Benz last week revealed that one of its variants, the EQXX, traveled more than 600 miles [1,000 km] with a single charge, and when it arrived the car still had a battery. That is a miracle that no other car group has achieved.

So the company has pushed wide limits on EVs, which can attract customers who are reluctant to get started because they are wondering about battery life, the so-called range of concern. It is also an option for regular travelers who do not want to plan their trip based on where the charging stations are located.

With the arrival of the model car, the remaining battery charge was estimated at 15%, approximately 140 kilometers (87 miles) of overtime. The standard used was 8.7 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers (7.1 kWh per 62 miles), said Mercedes-Benz.

Equipped with a 100 kWh battery, the efficient model uses less than half of the current consumption of comparable models.

Now, a few days later, Mercedes-Benz has another surprise.

Mercedes-Benz recently launched an all-electric SUV, the EQS. It could be the first electric star-branded SUV made in the U.S. The EQS SUV eliminates the EQS family, which already includes the EQS sedan unveiled last year.

The EQS SUV is a large field that takes seven people. It is a war announcement with Tesla's Model X SUV car with its grass doors and BMW's (BMW.DE) X SUV.

"With the elegant EQS sedan and the sporty executive EQE sedan, Mercedes-Benz has entered a new era, with all the power in the high-end markets," the company said in a statement.

Price? We Will Have to Wait.

The car's distance is more than 600 kilometers (373 miles) if you charge a single battery, with a power of 107.8 kWh, explains Mercedes-Benz. The EQS SUV comes with power input and charging, enabling owners to use multiple public charging stations in the U.S. Rechargeing the battery to 80% from 10% will take 31 minutes, said the car manufacturer.

The company did not disclose the EQS SUV time of 0 to 60 mph.

Production will begin "in a few months" at the Mercedes-Benz factory in Tuscaloosa, Ala., With its first delivery in the fall.

Mercedes-Benz has kept track of the price of this new luxury electric SUV. But it could be more than the $ 100,000 limit as the EQS sedan currently starts at around $ 102,310.

The basic price for the Tesla Model X SUV is $ 114,990 with a battery life of 333 miles and a horsepower of 1,020 horsepower.

As for the BMW X SUV, its price starts at $ 83,200 with a battery capacity of 324 miles.

The U.S. and Canada will be the leading markets for the EQS SUV, but Mercedes-Benz does not stop it from selling in Europe.
