Twitter Inc said in a statement Friday that it would not accept Egon Durban's resignation from the board, two days after shareholders blocked his re-election at the annual general meeting.
Durban is an ally of Elon Musk, who has promised to keep Twitter a secret from the $ 44 billion deal.
Twitter said eThekwini had failed to garner a majority of votes in the by-elections earlier this week due to "institutional voting rules for the board's boundaries".
Durban, which serves on the boards of six other companies, has agreed to reduce its board operations to boards of no more than five state-owned companies on May 25, 2023, Twitter said.
Silver Lake Partners, of which Durban is part of the CEO, helped raise Musk's Twitter account for $ 44 billion, according to the file.
